Why does the hole count differ at all?

140 mm blades are the largest in handheld doner slicers, and the cutting forces are too high for the keyhole mount used on smaller sizes. So they bolt directly onto the machine head — and each manufacturer chose its own bolt pattern: two, three or four holes. The result: three near-identical blades, none of which fits in another's place.

The practical difference between the patterns

The difference is not performance — same diameter, same steel, edge types per range. The entire difference is the mount:

Three holes is the most common because the pattern serves three brands, but none is "best" — best is whatever matches your machine head.

How to verify before ordering

1. Remove the old blade and lay it flat.
2. Count the bolt holes — ignore the large centre hole; the small holes around it are what counts.
3. Compare spacing: the distance between holes must match the machine head's pattern, not just the count. Right count but wrong spacing = a blade for a different machine.
4. When in doubt, see the specifications guide or the machine page in the shop.

Common mistakes

• Going by brand alone: some manufacturers changed hole patterns between machine generations. Always count the holes.
• Drilling holes wider: don't. It unbalances a rotating blade and turns it into a genuine hazard at thousands of RPM.
• Mixing up 140 mm with smaller sizes: 80–120 mm blades use keyhole or round-hole mounts, not bolts — the systems are not interchangeable.

Does a 4-hole blade sit more securely than a 2-hole one?

In practice, no noticeable difference — each pattern is engineered for its machine head and sits safely when bolts are tightened to the manufacturer's spec. The count is a compatibility question, not a quality question.

My machine is an Alkadur — how many holes do I need?

Alkadur takes the 3-hole pattern, as do IDM and Korkmaz. Atalay alone uses 4 holes, and universal two-bolt machines take 2 holes.

Can I use a 3-hole blade on a 4-hole machine?

No. The holes will not line up with the bolts, and any partially bolted blade runs unbalanced and dangerous. Order the exactly matching pattern.
